What Methods Are Used for Treatment of Accumulation of Salts

14 Mar 2017 г.

Accumulation of salts is the salting-out process from the dissolved state in tissue. In case of gout, it means the accumulation of uric acid salts in the moving parts of the musculoskeletal system (primarily in joints). Enlarging, the accumulation of salts starts growing and it becomes the cause of inflammatory state and severe pain. The crystalline salt compounds damage the cartilage and the bone tissue, thus, as a whole it leads to the restriction of motion activity. The localization of accumulation of salts is rather different. Very often, it can affect several areas (joints) at the same time.

Accumulation of salts: process, causes, symptoms

There is a misconception on the similarity of the formation process of osteophytes and accumulation of salts. Osteophytes are a pathological overgrowth of bone tissue, a marginal bone overgrowth under deforming loads, the result of the protective bodily compensatory reaction. These formations in their structure are the same as the bone structure and assume another formation process in comparison with the direct accumulation of salts.

The accumulation of salts occurs because of various disorders of the body water-salt metabolism. Therefore, in case of gout, the body cannot cope with the uric acid and its salts, urates. Together with the blood, urates can get into the joints. The arrow-headed form of urate crystals facilitates their deep penetration into tissues and their traumatization, causing severe pain and inflammatory state.

Thus, the key factor of accumulation of salts is abnormality of the body metabolic processes. There are many factors provoking the pathological process:

  • sedentary lifestyle;
  • frigorism;
  • joint injuries;
  • excessive weight;
  • unbalanced diet;
  • high physical activity;
  • harmful addictions, etc.

Symptoms associated with accumulation of salts are:

  • severe pain in the joint area;
  • the presence of “crepitus” when moving;
  • feeling of stiffness in joints;
  • numbness in the joint area;
  • temperature rise in the joint area.

Treatment of accumulation of salts

The treatment of accumulation of salts assumes a complex of multidirectional effects:

  • strict balanced diet;
  • physiotherapeutic procedures;
  • medical treatment.

One of the factors provoking accumulation of salts is an incorrect and unbalanced diet. Thus, in case of gout, the special diet helps to reduce the amount of uric acid in the blood and, thereby, stops the disease progression. For prevention and reduction of uric acid level increase in the blood (hyperuricemia), the daily diet should include large amount of water (9-10 glasses), herbal tea, apples, cherries, strawberries, vegetable juices, almonds and walnuts. It is necessary to exclude the products containing large amount of purines (excessive intake of meat, fish, red wine, and giblets), fats, smoked food, canned food, pastry, mayonnaise, sausages, legumes, sauces, etc.

Another effective method of treatment is a complex of physiotherapeutic procedures that help to enhance the metabolic processes aimed at elimination of accumulated salts. In addition, physiotherapeutic treatment promotes the regeneration process of the cartilage and bone tissues, effectively copes with pain. Physiotherapy treatment in case of accumulation of salts assumes diadynamic therapy, magnet therapy, paraffin therapy or ozokerite therapy, and mud therapy.

Medicinal treatment of accumulation of salts

Sensible, balanced intake of pharmacologic agents allows you to effectively combat the disease, stop the destructive processes and restore the necrotic tissues. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents (Diclofenac, Ketorolac, Naproxen, Ibuprofen, etc.) are among one of the mandatory drug groups, as they eliminate pain and inflammatory state. The intake of hormonal drugs (corticosteroids) releases the acute pain attacks.

The effect of the second drug group is aimed at elimination of the immediate disease cause: normalization of water-salt metabolism, getting rid of salts, and termination of the degenerative processes and cartilage and bone tissue restoration. In case of pathology of calcium metabolism and the development of calcifications, this drug group includes agents based on the bisphosphonate complex. Bisphosphonates are embedded into bone tissue and make it resistant to the effect of destructive cells – osteoclasts (when bones are destroyed, calcium is washed out into the blood). The drugs are available in the form of pills, injections, gels and creams. The use of bisphosphonate creams has no side effects; they can be used for a long period not only for elimination of salts, but also for prevention of the accumulation of salts (calcium). AKSINIA cream belongs to this group, as it regulates the calcium metabolism at the cellular level, eliminates the crystallization and accumulation of salts.
